Autism

At Open Spectrum we work with individuals with ASD of all support levels. Our services range from intensive and comprehensive Applied Behavior Analysis programs to targeted Cognitive Behavior Therapy for co-occuring mental health challenges.

Applied Behavior Analysis

Our work begins with a thorough assessment of your child’s needs. This is a comprehensive process that examines global skills including language, communication, self-help skills, social functioning, and behavioral challenges. It involves direct time with your child, observation, testing, and interviews with parents, teachers, and other caregivers. Once the assessment is complete and goals for treatment are identified a team is assembled to work with you and your child. Teams typically consist of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to supervise and direct the program and behavior interventionists to deliver direct services. Depending on goals, services are delivered in one or more settings such as the home, community, and school. Progress is evaluated continuously so that adjustments can be made to achieve goals as efficiently as possible.

For ABA services, we are proud to be an in-network provider with the following insurance carriers: Blue Shield of California, United Healthcare, Tricare, Managed Health Network (MHN). We are working hard to join other networks as well and expect to be able to accept more carriers very soon.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Approximately 50% of Autistic young people also meet criteria for at least 1 anxiety disorder. Mental health conditions add significant negative impact to these individuals lives. Although great strides have been made in early identification & intervention and availability of evidence-based behavioral treatments (e.g., ABA therapy) is growing, addressing associated mental health challenges continues to be a need. When it comes to treatments for Anxiety, OCD, and related conditions, CBT is a powerful tool and there is growing consensus in the literature that individuals with ASD benefit from these interventions as well. However, there is also general agreement one must understand their unique profile and make appropriate adjustments to the CBT toolkit to allow them to fully access the intervention. By offering an individually-tailored behavior therapy approach and placing an emphasis on establishing a respectful and collaborative relationship with clients and their support systems, we strive to help individuals overcome barriers and make meaningful steps towards a fulfilling, productive life.
